Briar is a trumpet player and pianist from Omaha, Nebraska. He’s spent the past couple years working as a paraprofessional educator and is currently employed by Columbia Public Schools. He loves teaching music and wants to continue teaching for schools or universities as well as A Major Music.
His mother started teaching him piano when he was 6. He studied classical piano and played mainly as a soloist or jazz pianist throughout middle school and high school. He also picked up trumpet when he was 10, taking private lessons through most of middle school and high school. He’s studied both classical and jazz piano and trumpet, and loves playing a wide range of different styles. Briar went to Wayne State College in Nebraska for 3 years and is currently working on his music education degree after moving to Columbia. In college he was part of the wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz bands, choir and marching band while continuing to take private lessons in both piano and trumpet.
He took classes in music theory, improv, chorale, percussion, and brass instruments. He loved learning more about music and getting to play and sing on a regular basis. Briar loves trying out new styles of music and finding new music to listen to. His favorite kind to play is jazz.
